In the automotive year 2022, one event that stood out quite literally was chasing the other. At first I was fascinated by the all-electric EV6 GT. A 585 hp Kia that accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds. It was still unimaginable just a few years ago – but e-mobility is turning even mid-range cars into sports rockets! No less impressive is the iX M60, BMW’s two sizes larger electric flagship: 620 hp on a test drive around Berlin sometimes made me forget that I was sitting in a 2.7-tonne SUV monster – unbelievable!
SUV for bike path
Bold and electric – now also available on the e-bike market. Geneva start-up Miloo wants to have created no less than SUV among e-bikes – I had to see it for myself in the Zurich showroom. In the saddle of the 35-pound Beast, I felt like the king of the bike path, not having to fear tram tracks or curbs thanks to mega tires. Will e-bikes drive cars away from cities like Zurich in the medium term, as the Miloo founders predicted in an interview? Wait and see – it’s certainly not due to a lack of innovation.
pure feelings
However, my personal prominence among all the vehicles used in 2022 has nothing to do with electricity. My first ride in a Lamborghini this summer must be a flight into new territory. In the Huracán Tecnica, the speed-hungry V10 beast at its height delivers up to 640 hp to the rear 20-inch cylinders. At the racetrack near Valencia (Spain), the deep rumble turns into a loud squeak in fractions of a second and chasing the corners becomes a frenzied driving experience. Even as an electric fan, I must admit: even the fastest Stromer does not evoke such feelings.
