Concern about the situation of women in Afghanistan

The organization announced on Monday that midwives, doctors and social workers from Terre des hommes in Afghanistan have been unable to work since Saturday. In the middle of winter, the worst is feared for the health of thousands of mothers, children and newborns.

Terre des hommes urged the continued participation of Afghan women in humanitarian efforts. According to the organization, some 28 million of the 40 million inhabitants depend on humanitarian aid, most of them women and children. Afghan aid workers played a vital role in addressing the plight of mothers.

In the current year, the Afghan midwives employed by the Swiss organization have cared for 48,000 women and newborns across the country. Terre des hommes has been working in Afghanistan for 27 years and today employs 167 women, some of whom have been working for more than 20 years. All these professionals would not be able to help the population today. (SDA)
