Serious accidents cause injuries and deaths all over the world on Christmas Eve

The morning of Boxing Day is overshadowed by accident reports from around the world. In addition to France, there were tragic car and bus accidents in Canada and Spain on Christmas Eve. Numerous people were injured and some were killed.

53 people injured in a bus accident in western Canada. The accident happened in the province of British Columbia near the city of Kelowna, the provincial premier writes on Twitter on Saturday evening (local time).

“Our thoughts are with those affected, their families, first responders and health care workers who are giving their all,” Eby wrote on Twitter.

Bus crashes into river in Spain, killing two

The cause of the accident was not immediately known. Authorities in the province had previously warned of freezing rain and street flooding due to ice-clogged drains. Drivers are being urged to consider alternative travel plans, it said Saturday.

But tragic accidents happened not only in Canada, but also in Spain and France on Christmas Eve. At least two people have been killed in a bus accident in northwestern Spain.

The bus fell off a bridge into a river in the municipality of Cerdedo-Cotobade near the city of Vigo on Christmas Eve, Spanish authorities said. Two passengers could only be rescued lifeless, the rescuers in Galicia announced on Twitter.

“There can be more people on the bus”

Two other people, including the bus driver, were rescued and taken to hospital. “There can be more people on the bus,” said the emergency services. Spanish media reported that three people are still missing.

According to the daily newspaper “La Voz de Galicia”, the passengers of the bus were on their way back after a visit from relatives in the detention center of Monterroso.

A fatal car accident also took place in northern France on Christmas Eve. Three people were killed in a three-car accident. Eleven other people were injured in the accident. They have all been taken to hospitals. One of the victims was a small child, rescuers said Sunday morning. It was initially unclear how the accident on the A1 motorway between Lille and Paris could have happened. The photos show that the cars involved are heavily damaged. (SDA/dzc)
