Earthquake surges along the Northern California coast

An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale struck the coast of Northern California at 2:34 a.m. local time Tuesday night, the United States Geological Survey USGS said. The quake’s epicenter was near the town of Ferndale, about 300 kilometers north of San Francisco and at a depth of 16.1 kilometers. There is no danger of a tsunami.

According to Foxweather, more than 40,000 homes in Humboldt County have lost power. Bridges in the region have also been damaged. There have been no reports of personal injury to date.

“My House Is a Mess”

Caroline Titus, a journalist from Ferndale, posted a video on Twitter showing how her home was destroyed. Various items are scattered on the floor after apparently falling off a shelf. “My house is a mess,” she wrote.

The quake came exactly one year after a magnitude 6.2 quake near Cape Mendocino, also in Humboldt County. (Hey)
