His daughter was unwell. But in the hospital, the doctors did not take her condition seriously. Now Stella-Lily M.* (†5) is dead and her father Robert M.* is devastated. The girl could still be alive. She had an actually harmless streptococcal infection.
The bacterial infection is distributed worldwide and is one of the most common childhood bacterial infections. But the disease was recognized too late – with fatal consequences for the five-year-old.
“They should have just tested them for strep from the start,” says Robert M. of the British newspaper “Mirror”.
“The next day her whole body collapsed”
It all started last week. His daughter began to feel unwell, after which he took her to the hospital three days later. The doctors there said Stella-Lily was just dehydrated. The next day they were sent home again.
It wasn’t until the words “Mom, I feel like I’m dying” came out of the little girl’s mouth the next day that the family was taken seriously for the first time in the hospital. A series of investigations followed. The doctors discovered that Stella-Lily had an infection in her chest and was even afraid of sepsis. A short time later, a blood test confirmed that the five-year-old was suffering from a strep infection.
From then on her condition rapidly deteriorated: “The next day her whole body collapsed and she was dead for five minutes before coming back to life,” the father told the “Mirror”. She was then placed in an induced coma and treated with antibiotics. His Stella-Lily died a few days later.
“She was too good for this world”
The hospital was also shocked by the death of the five-year-old: “We extend our deepest condolences to the family on the passing of Stella-Lilly.” Your treatment is now being carefully reviewed, the hospital continues.
Her death also caused horror in Stella-Lily’s environment, whom she describes as a “loving and popular girl”. M. thanked people for their “prayers, thoughts, feelings and love” after his “princess” died from the virus that was raging around the country. The grief in the whole family is enormous. “She was a beautiful, sweet, funny little girl who fought so hard to stay with us, she was too good for this world,” her aunt wrote, posting a series of family photos.
The girl’s tragic death not only sparked a wave of solidarity in her community, but also online. A fundraiser has even been started for Stella-Lily’s family on the crowdfunding platform “GoFundMe” so that they can cover the costs incurred. So far, the equivalent of nearly 11,000 Swiss francs and about 570 donations have been received. (dzc)
