Qatar’s energy minister rages against LGBTQ and Germany

Qatari Energy Minister Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi (55) has clearly rejected changes in the way homosexuals are treated in his country as a result of the World Cup. This was in conversation with the German newspaper “Bild”, who spoke to the responsible minister of Qatar after the gas deal with Germany became public.

“As Muslims, we believe that LGBTQ is not acceptable in our religion,” Al-Kaabi said. “Islamic law does not accept LGBTQ.” The English abbreviation LGBTQ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer.

“West wants to dictate to us what it wants”

He rejected international – and especially German – criticism of Qatar’s position on the matter. “The West wants to dictate to us what it wants,” he said. He goes on to say, “Where is my human right to choose what I want for my religion, my country, my children and my family?”

It is required “that we as Qataris must change. That we have to change our religion, our faith.” This is not acceptable”.

Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad Sharida al-Kaabi signed the gas agreement with Germany on Tuesday morning. From 2026, Qatar will send two million tons of liquefied LNG gas annually to the Federal Republic of Germany.

Criticism of the German Minister of Economic Affairs

The criticism of Germany from Qatar continues. For example, Al-Kaabi makes a claim about the German Minister of Economic Affairs Robert Habeck (53, Greens). Contrary to his own statement, he never said anything critical of Al-Kaabi.

It involves a meeting with the minister in the summer. Al-Kaabi says, “When he was here in Qatar, he only talked about whether we could supply more gas.” A spokeswoman for the minister denies this direct attack. In Qatar, Habeck “also spoke about human rights and social values,” it says. (EU)
