The oldest living cat in the world is almost as old as its new owner. Flossie holds the record at 26 years and 329 days, the Guinness Book of World Records announced on Thursday.
“I knew from the start that Flossie was a special cat, but I never imagined I’d be sharing my home with a world record holder,” says Vicki Green, 27, from Orpington, south-east London. “She is deaf and her eyesight is deteriorating, but that doesn’t seem to bother her.”
The eldest Büsi grew much older
Flossie is at least 120 in human years, says Naomi Rosling of the animal welfare organization Cats Protection. Guinness World Records editor Craig Glenday compared the cat to Jeanne Calment.
At 122 years and 164 days, the French woman is believed to be the oldest person to have ever lived. To get the record as the oldest cat in history, Flossie has to hold out for a while: Creme Puff holds this record – the American cat was 38 years and 3 days old. (SDA)
