The number of employment increased by 2.2 percent compared to the previous year and increased for the sixth time in a row. Overall, the Federal Statistical Office (BFS) counted 5,632 million employees in Switzerland in the third quarter, in a statement on Friday. This means that 115,000 new jobs are created in one year.
Both sectors contributed to employment growth and employment trends in all major regions also showed an upward trend. Employment in the service sector increased by 2.0 percent. A total of 4.241 million people work in the service sector.
More jobs were also created in the secondary sector (industry and construction). The number of employees there increased by 2.3 percent to 1,122 million.
Seasonally adjusted total employment increased by 0.2 percent compared to the previous quarter and became 5 million 340 thousand. Converted to full-time jobs, total employment in Switzerland would be 4.184 million full-time jobs. This represents an increase of 2.4 percent compared to the previous year.
Prospects also remain positive. The employment outlook indicator rose 1.4 percent year-on-year to 1.06. According to the FSO, both sectors are responsible for the increase.
