US military drone lands again after 908 days in space Bolsonaro supporters protests: military commits to democracy

A US military space drone has returned to Earth after nearly two and a half years in space. Boeing has announced that the unmanned spacecraft X-37B has landed at Kennedy Space Center on Saturday.

First launched in 2010, the drone has now spent more than a decade in space, traveling more than 1.3 billion miles on six missions.

It has a length of nine meters and a span of 4.5 meters and is powered by solar cells. The spacecraft was secretly developed for the US military by the United Launch Alliance, a joint venture between the US companies Boeing and Lockheed Martin.

Before the latest launch in May 2020, the Pentagon had said the mission was for a series of science experiments. Among other things, research needs to be done on how certain materials react in space and how radiation in space affects different seeds. (sda/afp)
