British minister writes on Twitter about layoffs Construction sites are at a standstill in Zurich – major action by the unions

UK Economy Secretary Grant Shapps wrote to the social media group on Twitter after the mass layoffs, warning them to comply with labor law rules. The ministry confirmed that such a letter had been sent.

That reports the British newspaper “Guardian” on Thursday evening. In another letter to trade union Prospect, which represents several British (ex-)Twitter employees, Shapps emphasizes that no company is above the law.

Hundreds of employees of the UK’s Twitter unit lost their jobs as a result of the spate of layoffs, according to the report. UK labor law requires employers to hold consultations when more than 20 workers are made redundant.

On Twitter, on the other hand, thousands found out via email without warning whether their jobs would go ahead or not. The media had reported about 3,700 jobs affected, equivalent to about half of the workforce. (sda/awp/dpa)
