133 Republican Election Deniers Elected So Far

Guido fields

In the US midterm elections, dozens of Republican candidates who had openly doubted the outcome of the 2020 presidential election have already prevailed in the first hours of counting.

According to a list from the Washington Post, 133 so-called election deniers won their votes in the first hours after the first polls closed, including many members of Congress, as well as governors, secretaries of state and attorney generals. Many other races were initially still open.

The paper, along with well-known American think tank Brookings, had previously identified 291 Republican candidates for various federal or state offices and offices who shared the allegations of election fraud by former Republican President Donald Trump (76) and cast doubt on the course of the election. the elections. That’s just over half of all Republican candidates.

Trump strikes again

Trump lost the 2020 presidential election to Democrat Joe Biden (79). To this day, Trump refuses to admit defeat. The Republican continues to spread baseless claims that mass voter fraud robbed him of a victory at the time.

And Trump also questioned the reliability of the midterm elections on Tuesday. Where the Democrats won, he spoke of alleged irregularities.

In Detroit, voters at the polls were told that they had already voted: “This is happening en masse, elsewhere. Protest, protest, protest!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, a social media platform he co-founded. He has not provided any evidence for his claims.

Fear of losing democracy

The election of the election deniers is a major concern for Monterey-based Swiss Vinz Koller, 59, who works for the Democrats. He fears that the current electoral law is not accepted in certain states and that the rules could be changed in the short term, for example by not allowing certain votes for formal reasons.

Koller to Blick: “People in the Republican Party are working to undermine the sense of security.” He sees democracy in the United States in danger. “The threat is greater than ever.”

Koller emigrated from Schaffhausen to California in 1986. As a Democratic representative of the Electoral College, he has co-elected the US president three times. He was chairman of the Democrats in Monterey County, which has a population of about 450,000. In the current Midterms, as Mailcampaign Manager, he is responsible for printed election advertisements.
