US Supreme Court clears way for Senator Graham questioning There is rumbling in Brazil – Bolsonaro is in hiding and won’t say anything more

The US Supreme Court has cleared the way for prominent US Senator Lindsey Graham to testify about possible interference in the 2020 presidential election in the state of Georgia. The senator did not want to testify before a special jury during the investigation into the election and therefore went to the Supreme Court. There, conservative judge Clarence Thomas initially granted the request temporarily last week, but the Supreme Court has now rejected the request.

Republican Graham was a close confidant of the then US president during Donald Trump’s tenure. In particular, his survey is likely to cover phone calls Graham allegedly had with Georgia’s chief election monitor, Brad Raffensperger, and his employees in the weeks following Trump’s election defeat in 2020. Georgia was one of the states where the election was in favor. by Trump Democratic challenger Joe Biden.

Prosecutor Fani Willis in Fulton County, Georgia, launched an investigation into the 2020 election last year. Several of Trump’s allies, including Graham, have been asked to testify before a jury now set up. An appeals court in Georgia rejected Graham’s lawyers’ objections that he, as a senator, was protected from such investigations. Judge Thomas then granted the request, at least temporarily, but now the Supreme Court followed the appeals court’s reasoning. The legal dispute is not over yet.

Judge Thomas herself now takes center stage because his wife Virginia was in contact with the White House over the January 6, 2021 storming of the Capitol. She is said to have actively supported Trump’s efforts to reverse the election results. Recently, there have been repeated calls for Judge Thomas to withdraw from cases related to Trump and the 2020 presidential election (sda/dpa)
