This scenario is currently set in Shanghai – at Disneyland there. The amusement park had to close its doors abruptly on Monday due to China’s strict zero-covid policy – and lock up visitors.

The visitors were told that they were only allowed to leave the amusement park if they could show a negative corona test, writes ‘BBC’, among others. This ordinance was introduced after ten locally transmitted cases were reported in Shanghai on Saturday.

Videos posted to the Chinese social media site Weibo show people rushing to the park’s gates after the announcement, only to find that they were already locked.

However, the trip to Disneyland can become a dream rather than a nightmare for those affected, as the attractions are still in operation for those who are trapped.

The arrangement for Disneyland visitors, who were able to leave the park just in time, could be less fun. The Chinese government announced via WeChat that anyone who has visited the park since Thursday must submit three negative test results on three consecutive days before being allowed to leave an orderly quarantine.

Nearly three years after the first case of coronavirus was reported in China, authorities in the vast country continue to take drastic measures to prevent transmission of the virus. And so, since October 24, millions of people have been locked up in China. But despite all the measures, more than 1000 new Covid cases are registered every day.

Earlier this month, Chinese President Xi Jinping indicated that the zero-covid policy would not be relaxed, calling it a “people’s war to stop the spread of the virus”. So the people locked up in Disneyland can only hope that a negative Covid test is actually enough as a weapon in this war.
