Iranian student Vida S. is not allowed to be buried in Iran. She is described by Iranian authorities as a ‘sinner’.

“She is a sinner,” is how Iranian authorities explain their decision that a dead Iranian woman should not be returned home. Vida S. (†21) was found dead in his car with her boyfriend Vincenzo N.* (†24) in Italy on March 16, the “Corriere del Mezzogiorno” reported. The woman traveled to Caserta as an Iranian student in December 2022 to study computer science. Now her parents wanted to take her body home so they could bury her in their home country.

However, authorities in Tehran firmly rejected the request. On March 17, the YouTube channel Iran International reported about the student. The post claimed that the two were found half-naked and about to have sex. The two died of carbon monoxide poisoning. The exhaust fumes from the Fiat Panda in which Vida and Vincenzo were found were their downfall. The 24-year-old’s father discovered the two in the garage of his building in Caserta.

“Stop leaking unconfirmed news”

After the Iranian authorities’ decision became public, Vincenzo’s father and a friend of the deceased Vida S., an Iranian student, contacted the Italian radio station Radio Marte. “When I found them both, they were clothed. It is not fair that Vida’s reputation in her home country is now being tarnished in this way,” Vincenzo’s father said indignantly in the show. “Vincenzo and Vida loved each other. She studied, she was respected and appreciated,” the father continued.

Both were particularly critical of the reporting on the Iranian side. “We ask you to stop leaking unconfirmed news.” This is the only way Vida’s family can bury their daughter. Thanks to the radio message, Italian politician Francesco Emilio Borrelli intervened and wants to ask the Italian Foreign Ministry for help to put things right with the Iranian authorities. (mgf)
