When he takes to the streets in his hometown of Ghazipur in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, he feels the constant stares. If you look at him from the left, Malik Aftab (26) looks like anyone his age. But from the right side you immediately notice his oversized arm. As “The Sun” reports, people on the street would avoid him because of this. “People are afraid of me,” says the young man.

Why his arm grew so much is a mystery to doctors. To this day, they don’t know what Aftab is suffering from. But it is very likely that he suffers from Proteus syndrome. As a result, different tissues, bones or skin in the body grow disproportionately – this leads to asymmetries, but can also contribute to the development of tumors and cancer. The disease has only been actually diagnosed about 200 times. Aftab’s diagnosis is still pending.

A visit to the doctor is too expensive

Proteus syndrome usually becomes visible in children from the 6th month onwards. Aftab went to the doctor several times as a child. Now the family can no longer afford further treatment for financial reasons. The arm, which weighs about nine kilos, not only attracts attention, but also causes severe pain.

Nevertheless, he remains standing by his arm. On his Instagram account he reports on his life to his approximately 194,000 followers – and always confidently shows off his arm. (Unpleasant)
