A doctor from Bavaria is said to have invoiced several times for work as a corona vaccination doctor, even though he did not work at the vaccination center. The Nuremberg Public Prosecution Service announced on Monday that the damage amounted to more than 640,000 euros. She has filed a complaint against the doctor from the Bad Kissingen district.

The Bavarian Central Office for the Combating of Fraud and Corruption in Healthcare therefore assumes that the doctor repeatedly wrongly filed fee claims against the Bavarian Association of Statutory Health Insurers between March 2021 and December 2022.

Computer fraud in 18 cases

He feigned visits to vaccination centers that were particularly far from home and reported high travel costs. The doctor also claimed that he worked at the vaccination center on weekends and holidays to receive higher flat rates. For vaccination services that he actually provided, he allegedly charged additional hours of work that were not actually performed.

The doctor entered the false information through an online portal, the Public Prosecution Service said. They were invoiced completely automatically and the money was paid out. The investigators now accuse the suspect of computer fraud in 18 cases.

Doctor remains silent about accusations

It was said that the starting point for the investigation was an audit by the Bavarian Supreme Court. After inconsistencies were noted, the Association of Statutory Health Insurers investigated the matter further and ultimately reported it to head office.

According to the information, the doctor has not yet commented on the allegations. Some of the damage has already been repaired. The Nuremberg-Fürth Regional Court must now decide whether to admit the charges and open the main proceedings. (AFP)
