Tinder drops its pants: more transparency in prices Trump is doing well – but only at first glance

After pressure from consumer interests, the dating app Tinder wants to better inform users in the future about the reasons for individual offers. The popular app puts an end to what the European Commission considers an unfair practice. as the Brussels government announced on Thursday.

The voluntary commitment comes after consumer advocates discovered that Tinder was offering customers personalized prices without telling them. This is contrary to EU consumer law.

For example, users who were not interested in premium subscriptions at the standard price were automatically recognized by the app to receive personalized discounts. However, they were not aware of this, it was said. Furthermore, the app offered lower prices for its premium services based on users’ age until April 2022, also without notifying users.

Like many other dating apps, Tinder offers different memberships. Depending on how much users pay, more features are available. Premium users can find dates all over the world or be shown to others more quickly. A survey by the Swedish Consumers’ Association showed in 2022 that Tinder charged different prices from person to person for these extensive options. (saw/sda/awp/dpa)
