There is reason to be happy: Donald Trump.

Republican Donald Trump (77) has continued his triumph during his party’s American presidential elections. As expected, the former president and current presidential candidate won internal party votes in the states of Missouri and Idaho on Saturday (local time), as broadcasters NBC and CNN reported, citing their own predictions.

Missouri is located in the center of the country and has approximately six million inhabitants. Idaho is located in the northwest of the US and has approximately two million inhabitants. In both states, voting did not take place in the traditional manner at polling stations, but rather at small party gatherings – so-called caucus meetings.

Trump has so far won all the votes in his party’s primaries for the fall presidential election. The only remaining internal party competitor – former US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley (52) – could not win. It’s unclear how long Haley will stay in the race, as she essentially no longer has a chance to beat Trump.

Candidates officially chosen in the summer

Despite several scandals, escapades and a chaotic term in office, the ex-president has strong support among the party base. Anyone who wants to become a presidential candidate in the US must first win in the parties’ internal primaries. The candidates are then officially chosen at party conferences in the summer.

The Republican nominating convention will take place in mid-July. The actual presidential elections will take place in early November. For the Democrats, incumbent President Joe Biden wants to run for a new term. He has no serious competition in his party’s internal race. (SDA)
