“To all Swiss: shame on you. “You are ashamed of where you live, where you live and that your country is so expensive,” Fibii complains into the camera. The well-known influencer (more than 2.1 million followers on Instagram, Twitch and Tiktok) is angry. She was skiing in the mountains for two days to celebrate her 18th birthday with family. But they would have knocked down the prices. She paid 500 euros (479 francs) for two days for herself and her brother. Then she saw how expensive the food was. The next shock. «17 euros for a kebab. And then there was also corn on it,” Fibii continues to complain.
She doesn’t understand how anyone can be happy in Switzerland. She doesn’t come to us anymore. And she is not the only one with this opinion. Her family was also shocked and irritated by the high prices. Only if she was invited would she come to Switzerland again.
It has destroyed her mentally that everything here is so expensive. And then the German really gets to work again: “To all Swiss: you think you are something better. You guys are a pile of trash.” Then there’s a short pause. She leaves the picture, comes back and explains that that was an exaggeration. But the high cost would have really shocked them.
The video has been viewed more than 200,000 times on Tiktok alone. And in the comments, her viewers are surprised by the panic. Especially which ski resort she went to, that is so expensive. “So my kebab costs a maximum of 10 to 12 francs, I don’t know where you were,” is one comment. The high price for the two days in the mountains is also surprising. Fibii claims she paid 500 euros (479 francs) for herself and her brother for two days. For comparison: a day ticket for St. Moritz costs about 100 francs per adult. It is unclear how the 500 euros came about.
When asked by Blick, Fibii did not want to comment further about her ski holidays in Switzerland. She only says this about her lawyer: “She thinks the prices in Switzerland are higher than in Germany, but she also knows about the higher wages and salaries in Switzerland. But she really appreciates the country and its people!” And despite the price shock, she wanted to come back. Fibii “will of course go back to Switzerland,” her lawyer explains.
It is not the first time that influencers have been affected by high prices. Most recently, the video of two British travel bloggers caused a stir in early February. Jade (31) and Ryan Dash (31) complained about the Glacier Express. The world famous train that runs between Zermatt VS and St. Moritz GR is a rip off. The journey is far too long, about eight hours. In addition, a seating fee would have to be paid, which would cost approximately 200 francs per person. The food on board the Glacier Express is also too expensive. And on top of that, the Glacier Express is completely overcrowded. The British therefore recommend taking regional trains. They are much cheaper and just as good.
Annemarie Meyer, director of the Glacier Express, told Blick: “It is not the case that tickets for the Glacier Express are fundamentally more expensive than those for regional transport.” The route itself costs the same everywhere. “On the Glacier Express, the only additional costs are seat reservation fees.”
