Neighbors tell: The underground life of the RAF terrorist Klette

“It was just said that they were carrying out a routine check in the house,” reports neighbor Neriman I.* (51), who lives in the same house as former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette (65). The apartment building in Berlin-Kreuzberg rises inconspicuously into the sky – no one had any idea that one of Germany’s most wanted people lived there. Because not only is the building inconspicuous, Klette also led a very simple underground life, several neighbors now tell ‘Bild’.

Daniela Klette was arrested in her apartment on Monday evening. The supposedly nice neighbor – a terrorist. The neighbors initially did not notice the arrest. “We only found out through the local press,” says Neriman I. She does not know Klette well. “We saw each other and occasionally greeted each other in the hallway, but we no longer had contact.”

Volunteer to clean the streets

Other residents of the house also describe Burdock as unobtrusive and friendly. However, she often stopped by another woman’s house for coffee. “We cleaned the street together on a voluntary basis. She was my friend. She’s not a terrorist. “I don’t believe in that,” she told “Bild”.

Klette called herself Claudia and was a teacher. She had apparently already helped the coffee neighbor’s son learn German and also wrote a letter for the family.

Burdock wasn’t alone either. “She had no children. Her boyfriend was there every now and then.” Neriman I describes Klette’s partner as a man about the same age with long hair that he always tied in a ponytail. Klette is also said not to have had a car, but always traveled by bicycle.

More than two million euros stolen

Daniela Klette is said to have committed bomb attacks and robberies of cash transport vehicles. Together with Burkhard Garweg (55) and Ernst-Volker Staub (69), she is said to have stolen more than two million euros. The search on Thursday also showed that the former RAF terrorist was not as harmless as her neighbors thought. The investigators are said to have found several dangerous objects, including a grenade, as “Zeit” reports.

Authorities had been looking for the RAF trio for thirty years. According to the Public Prosecution Service of Verden, Klette’s accomplices have still not been found.
