The government of the Principality of Liechtenstein has autonomously implemented new sanctions decided by the EU against Russia, it wrote in a statement. This would mean that the country would consistently continue with the current policy.
The new measures are part of the 13th package of measures against Russia, which the EU decided on February 23 as additional sanctions. The Principality of Liechtenstein announced this on Wednesday. A corresponding regulation on measures related to the situation in Ukraine has been adapted.
As part of this package, the European Union has imposed travel and financial sanctions on 106 individuals and 88 entities. According to the statement, the people include executives from Russian defense companies, companies in the field of oil and gas production and the necessary technology.
The newly listed individuals include senior military officers and commanders of the Russian Armed Forces, as well as officials in Russian-occupied territories in Ukraine.
The EU package of measures aims in particular to help reduce the capabilities of the Russian military and defense industry and prevent circumvention activities through third-country companies. At the same time, the aim is to counter Russia’s illegal deportation and re-education of Ukrainians.
The government of Liechtenstein has also decided to adopt the new sanctions imposed by the EU on February 22 against six people and one organization in the Republic of Moldova. These would be punished because of their ties to Russia and their actions to destabilize Moldova. (sda/lyn)
