If the New York prosecutor’s office has its way, Trump’s statements in the hush money trial must be limited.

In the upcoming trial against former American president Donald Trump (77) in connection with hush money payments to a porn star, the Public Prosecution Service wants to restrict public statements by the former American president. This is evident from a petition from the office of New York Attorney General Alvin Bragg to the court in Manhattan – the procedure is intended to protect those involved in the proceedings.

“The defendant has a long and perhaps unique history of using social media, speeches, rallies and other public statements to attack people he views as adversaries,” said the letter, which was released Monday. The court should therefore force Trump from the outset to refrain from making disparaging statements.

The 77-year-old is charged with 34 charges in the trial, which starts on March 25: the Public Prosecution Service accuses him of falsifying business documents. He wanted to hide damaging information and illegal activities before and after the 2016 presidential elections to increase his chances in the elections.

Trump pleaded not guilty

The background to the case is mainly that Trump paid $130,000 in hush money to porn actress Stormy Daniels shortly before his election as president. She claimed she had sex with him. Trump denies an affair, but does not deny that money flowed. Non-disclosure agreements between two parties are not illegal. However, Trump is accused of illegally recording the payments, attempting to illegally conceal them and thereby covering up other legal violations. The ex-president has pleaded not guilty.

Trump had already sharply attacked those involved in the process during previous court hearings, for example in a fraud trial against him that recently ended with a record sentence. The judge there had already banned the ex-president from making certain statements about court employees and made them punishable. (SDA)
