Someone should say money buys happiness: that’s why there’s currently a violent war of the roses going on between an ex-couple in Britain. The reason: a scratch card jackpot worth £1 million, which the woman has now won all for herself.

At least that is what Michael Cartlidge (39) claims, who feels he has been duped by his former partner Charlotte Cox (37). Because shortly after the couple won the beautiful piece, the two broke up. In addition to Cox, he also lost his million.

The profits must be divided equally

However, he is not willing to accept the latter so easily. He admits that his girlfriend bought the scratch card at the time and scratched it herself. Cartlidge is convinced he is still entitled to the money. After all, it was he who gave Cox the idea to buy the lot, he tells “The Sun”.

“I’m in shock. I can honestly admit that we wouldn’t have gotten the ticket without Charlotte, but she wouldn’t have gotten it without me either.” It would therefore only be fair if the profits were shared equally, Cartlidge continued.

His ex-partner sees it very differently, dismissing Cartlidge’s claims on “The Sun” as “nonsensical” and noting that he has “no right” to the jackpot.

Particularly bitter for Cartlidge: he was almost the one who benefited from the million-dollar blessing. According to Cartlidge, Cox apparently had no cash on him when the two went to buy the tickets. So he opened his banking app to make the transfer. Apparently the signal was bad, so the payment didn’t work. Ultimately, Cox paid the amount with her credit card. The big surprise followed at home.

But the joy was short-lived. Three weeks after the victory, a friend of the woman allegedly called the man “out of the blue” and asked him to leave the house. He had a bad feeling Cox “was up to something,” Cartlidge said. So he ran away and took the scratch card with him just in case.

Is willing to fight for the money

That way he still doesn’t get the money. A few days ago he received a letter from the British National Lottery informing him that he was not entitled to the money. Ultimately, only one person can own the ticket and then claim the money won.
