On Wednesday evening, about 230 people demonstrated in a flash mob in front of the Axel Springer high-rise in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district against the media group’s position in the Middle East conflict. The media group has enshrined support for Israel in its mission statement.
A spokesperson for the Berlin Police Situation Service told t-online in the evening that the event on Rudi-Dutschke-Strasse had finally been broken up. The pro-Palestinian demonstrators had blocked the entrance to the house.
According to the spokesperson, possible anti-Israel statements made by individual participants are now being investigated. There were also calls from the group saying: “All of Berlin hates the police.” In total, the personal data of twelve people were checked and no arrests were made.
Several demonstrators eventually had to be taken away by emergency services in the evening. There was also a scuffle between police officers and demonstrators. Furthermore, the evening was quiet in the capital, the spokesperson said.
According to the RBB, a conference organized by “Welt” and the Israeli daily “Jerusalem Post” sparked the protests. The anti-Semitism that is growing worldwide and also in Germany and the conflict in the Middle East must be discussed there. The conference was opened in the evening by Minister of Justice Marco Buschmann (FDP).
The Israeli ambassador to Germany, Ron Prosor, was also announced. The meeting was attended by several German and Israeli politicians, as well as representatives of various organizations.
