2.5 million dollars for a luxury suite – the Super Bowl has never been so expensive DFB Cup: Bayer Leverkusen against VfB Stuttgart – both smell the title

The 58th Super Bowl will take place this Monday in Las Vegas. This year, the biggest sporting event in the United States is not only focused on the two competing teams and the halftime show acts, but also on the high ticket prices.

Anyone who wants to watch this year’s Super Bowl live in the stadium will have to compete with “billionaires looking for a place to park their plane,” as a New York Times journalist puts it.

At the biggest sporting event in the US, the match between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs not only attracts today’s best football players, such as Nick Bosa, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, but also music greats Usher, Gwen Stefani and Post Malone, who performs before the game or in the legendary halftime show.

A Super Bowl of superlatives – as far as the price of admission is concerned

The whole thing takes place in Las Vegas – the entertainment metropolis par excellence – and will probably attract many wealthy guests. By the way, the airplane thing wasn’t an exaggeration; there are no longer aircraft parking spaces available at Harry Reid and Henderson Executive Airports – both in and around Las Vegas.

It can be difficult for mere mortals to get a ticket. Not only because they are so sought after, but also because you have to dig deep for them – deeper than ever before. According to the New York Times, visitors paid an average of about $8,700 for a ticket this year – as of yesterday. The average price is 70% higher than last year.

Allegiant Stadium, where the 58th Super Bowl will be played, seats 65,000 people. The tickets not only find their way to customers through official points of sale, but are also traded on auction platforms.

The fact that the price is particularly high this year is probably due to several factors. On the one hand, this year’s two teams attract a large number of spectators. The record for the most expensive Super Bowl tickets was also measured during a meeting between these two teams in 2020. In addition, for the first time the Super Bowl will be played in Las Vegas, in a stadium that is relatively small, meaning there are fewer tickets than the recent years – pop star Taylor Swift may also appear at her friend Travis Kelce’s game, also causing demand to explode.

The 34-year-old singer is performing in Tokyo just 24 hours before the Super Bowl, but should still make it to Las Vegas in time for the spectacle. According to CNN, the Japanese embassy in Washington personally assured that Swift “will arrive in Las Vegas before the Super Bowl, despite the 12-hour flight and 17-hour time difference.”

2.5 million for an exclusive suite

If the ‘cheap’ places aren’t excellent enough for you, the experience can be significantly more expensive. Seats close to the field start at $18,000, and you can watch the game in a luxury suite for $2.5 million – including lobster and drinks.

To illustrate the magnitude of the Super Bowl ticket price explosion: When the event was first held in 1967, a ticket cost $12 (about $100 adjusted for inflation). (cat)
