‘Monet and Van Gogh would have liked to see this protest’

The climate activists get approval from government journalists from Germany. Özden Terli (51), meteorologist and moderator at ZDF, writes on Twitter: “If an artist did it, it would be an art action.” Background: On Sunday afternoon, two German climate activists from the “Last Generation” group threw mashed potatoes at a photo of the French painter Claude Monet (1840-1926) at the Barberini Museum in Potsdam.

Jessica Kordouni, Broadcasting Council at NDR and Groenpoliticus, also supports the campaign: “Potato puree and tomato soup are absolutely art. Monet and Van Gogh would have loved to see this protest,” she said on Twitter. She continued: “After all, it’s about the beauty of this world that needs to be saved.”

Gabor Halasz (45), a journalist in the ARD capital studio, is less enthusiastic about the campaign. He complained on Twitter: “Could we be talking more about people putting something in photos – than about climate change?”

Climate activists free again

The internet does not only talk about the actions of the climate activists, but also about how they are reported on. A text message from “BR24” – a news channel from Bavaria – said the climate activists had “success” in a new campaign. They were immediately accused of judging this act as something positive. The medium responded moments later. It’s a misunderstanding. It was intended that the activists “succeeded” in “executing their plan”, writes the “Bild”.

The accused climate activists are now free. The two people were released on Sunday after being questioned at the station, a West Police Department spokeswoman said Monday. The two are under investigation for property damage and trespassing. (nab)
