Stadler receives order of 600 million from Saudi Arabia. New slimming products as possible cost items in healthcare

Eastern Swiss train manufacturer Stadler has closed a major deal in Saudi Arabia. The order from Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) is worth approximately 600 million francs.

According to a statement Monday evening, the delivery contract includes ten trainsets in the basic version with the option for ten additional trainsets. The associated maintenance contract includes full maintenance and the supply of spare parts for a period of ten years.

Stadler managed to triumph in an international tender process. For Stadler it is the first order in the Gulf region. The trains to be delivered will be about 175 meters long and adapted to the climatic conditions in the desert state.

The SAR plans to use the trains mainly in the eastern rail network to increase capacity between the urban centers of Riyadh, Hofuf, Abqaiq and Dammam. The SAR rail network is currently being significantly expanded as part of the “Vision 2030” modernization plan.

In addition to Stadler boss Peter Spuhler and Nasser Al-Jasser, the Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics and chairman of the SAR Board of Directors, Federal Councilor Guy Parmelin was also present at the signing of the contract on (today) Monday. (sda/awp)
