About 2,900 Swiss passengers were affected by the strike of security staff at German airports on Thursday. 490 of them to the destination Geneva, the airline announced on Wednesday at the request of Keystone-SDA.
The strike also had major consequences for Swiss flight operations, the airline continued. With a few exceptions, outbound flights could be operated to Berlin, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hannover, Stuttgart and Bremen.
Return flights to Switzerland, on the other hand, should operate without passengers, except for two flights from Düsseldorf, it was said. Air traffic to Munich remains unchanged.
An airport spokesperson announced that six flights at Geneva airport have been cancelled. Three flights from Frankfurt and one flight from Düsseldorf are affected. Two other flights to Düsseldorf are also cancelled.
Passengers affected by the strike will be proactively rebooked by Swiss on flights at a later date, but they can also make this rebooking independently. Passengers could also request a free cancellation.
The strike by the Verdi union will last from early Thursday morning until midnight and will take place at eleven airports. Employees in the aviation security sector working in passenger, people and goods screening, cargo screening and in service areas were called to strike. The union wants to achieve higher wages. (sda)
