After much fuss about a pizzeria owner from Italy who was initially celebrated and then criticized online, the woman was found dead. On Sunday, the body of Giovanna P.* was discovered on the banks of a river, not far from her restaurant ‘Le Vignole’ in the municipality of Sant’Angelo Lodigiano in northern Italy, Ansa news agency reported.

The Italian previously made headlines for her quick response to a homophobic and discriminatory online review. Later doubts arose about this story.

Just a marketing campaign?

One guest reportedly complained about having to sit “next to some gays” and next to a “boy in a wheelchair who had trouble eating.” The entry was later removed. In her response, the innkeeper asked the guest not to come back, according to a screenshot she shared.

The case caused great excitement in Italy. The owner of the pizzeria was initially praised for her moral courage. But soon after, doubts about the story grew on social media. A well-known journalist expressed her suspicion that the entire incident was fabricated and accused the innkeeper of a marketing campaign.
