A warehouse burned down in St. Petersburg on Saturday. The column of smoke was gigantic.

Mega fire in Saint Petersburg, Russia! As local media report, a fire broke out on Saturday morning in one of the largest warehouses of the online mail order company Wildberries. Photos on X show a giant column of smoke rising above the building.

Incredibly: as the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry announced, the fire area reached 70,000 square meters. 270 firefighters were deployed to extinguish the fire.

The damage could amount to $125 million

According to the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry, the fire has been brought under control and further spread has been prevented. No deaths have been reported so far.

While unnamed sources close to the ministry see arson as one of the possible causes, others believe the fire was due to faulty wiring. A short circuit could therefore have caused the fire.

The damage must not be too small. Some speculate the fire could cost more than $125 million. (dzc)
