No one is allowed to see them together: Dutch lovers have to hide in Valais for months

Amy Rose (21) gently caresses her Saul (30) on the face, followed by a kiss. “He is the love of my life,” says the young woman from near Utrecht NL. Saul looks deeply into her eyes. Yes, the two are very much in love.

Until now, however, the public was not allowed to know anything about the two’s feelings for each other. “We had to hide our love, like an affair,” says Saul Coltof. The reason for the secrecy was not another relationship, but the circumstances of how the couple met.

Last winter the two met in the dating program ‘Winter full of Love’ on the Dutch broadcaster RTL. In the show, Dutch singles who live and work abroad look for a partner. Saul Coltof is there too. Together with his brothers he runs a real estate company with an office in Riederalp VS.

“My mother signed me up for the show. “She thought I worked too much and that it was time to get to know a partner,” says Coltof, laughing. The entrepreneur became involved in the experiment and the recordings took place ten months ago on Riederalp.

Several women want to get to know the dynamic young man. Also Amy Rose de Bruijn. “I saw Saul’s wanted poster and thought, this could be something.” The make-up artist travels to Valais and falls in love with Saul. The two have been a couple ever since.

Playing hide and seek for months

But the couple has a problem: until now, no one was allowed to know anything about their love. Saul says, “The filming was months ago, but the show only aired in the past few weeks.” To ensure that the show’s viewers don’t have fun, the two have to hold back.

This is a huge challenge, especially for Amy Rose de Bruijn. After visiting Saul in Valais every week in the months after the show, she decided to put it all on one card and emigrate in September. “That was difficult,” she says. The young woman is not even allowed to tell her friends why she suddenly moved to Switzerland. “Some then broke off contact,” she says. “That hurt, but at least I know who my friends really are.”

There are also the usual challenges of emigrating. De Bruijn is learning German. “That makes it easier to make contacts.” The young woman is also unable to do her job for the time being. “If I had started working here, that would also have been an indication that there was a spark between Saul and me.”

But de Bruijn does not have to get used to the mountains: the Riederalp is about 2000 meters above sea level. “As a child I always went on holiday to Haute-Nendaz USA with my family, so I was familiar with the mountains of Valais,” she says.

Real celebrities

Since the show aired in December 2023, the two’s lives have changed immensely once again. “It’s our 15 minutes of fame,” says Saul Coltof. Two million people are watching the show at any given time. “Many guests from the Netherlands come to Riederalp, we are constantly recognized and addressed on the street.” The two make sure they don’t appear as a couple.

The two enjoy the attention, which is ‘positive in 95 percent of the cases’. But Amy Rose de Bruijn also says: “Some people just have no decency, and there is always a lot of hate and envy on social media.”

First and foremost, they are now enjoying their time together, now without playing hide and seek. Because the last episode about how they met was broadcast on Saturday.
