Switzerland won’t let go of Belarusian Tiktoker Anya. In September, a video went viral in which the young woman marveled at the wage level and ‘incredible offer’ at discount chain Lidl.

Anya now lives in Spain. She has now slightly adjusted her opinion about Switzerland, according to a new video by the blogger. The title is: “Three reasons why Spain is better than Switzerland.”

Her first argument concerns a topic she also discussed in her viral clip: her neighbors. In Spain, she doesn’t have to worry about being able to shower after 10 p.m. – “and I know the neighbors won’t call the police,” says Anya.

She already received a response in September for a similar statement about the shower rule, which appears very rarely in house rules and rental agreements. “Flushing the toilet has been a myth among Swiss tourists for years,” one user explained to her at the time.

Expert Fabian Gloor of the Swiss Tenants Association explained to Blick that such an arrangement would infringe too heavily on the personal rights of tenants. So when neighbors call the police about late night showers, they’re in the wrong.

She emphasizes low food prices as Spain’s second advantage. According to the Belarusian, a weekly shop in the southern European country should cost only 27 euros. A Blick test for Switzerland in September 2023 showed an amount of 284.95 francs for a weekly shop for a family of five, giving a value of 56.99 francs per person.

Surprising conclusion

The third point Anya mentions is the sense of community that exists in Spain. “It was very difficult for me to meet new people in Switzerland,” she says. The majority of people in Switzerland work in large companies and would not go out as often as in Spain. “Spain is more accessible to foreigners,” she says.

After all the praise for Spain, her conclusion is surprising: “I still believe Switzerland is great and can hardly wait to return.” There is criticism in the comments. “You say Spain is so much better and in the end you say you can’t wait to go back to Switzerland. “You seem very confused,” one user teases.
