50 years after Apollo: first private American moon mission launched at Cape Canaveral

class=”sc-cffd1e67-0 fmXrkB”>

The first private American mission to the moon began Monday morning.

The rocket is of the “Vulcan Centaur” type from the manufacturer ULA with the lander “Peregrine”. The capsule, from Pittsburgh company Astrobiotic, is expected to land in an area called Sinus Viscositatis (Bay of Stickiness).

In April 2023, a Japanese company failed in a similar mission. The Ispace company gave the reason for the incorrect altitude calculation of the lander during the landing attempt.

With the “Peregrine Mission 1” private individuals could purchase space to transport materials to the moon. The lander is 1.9 meters high and has a diameter of 2.5 meters. The American space agency NASA also wants to prepare its own expeditions to the moon with various devices during the trip. (SDA)
