More than 30 migrants kidnapped in Mexico freed Hezbollah chief: “They are not afraid of war” ++ US threatens Houthis over ship attacks

In northern Mexico, 31 kidnapped migrants were released by security forces after four days. Interior Minister Luisa Alcalde said on Platform X on Wednesday that they were doing well. The migrants were abducted from a bus by armed men on Saturday in Tamaulipas state, near the US border. The background was unclear; in similar cases, drug cartels had extorted ransoms from families.

Alcalde thanked the National Guard, the armed forces and local authorities in Tamaulipas for their efforts. According to media reports, the migrants from countries such as Venezuela and Colombia were on their way to appointments to submit their asylum claims to US authorities when they were kidnapped. According to government spokesman Jesús Ramírez, they were medically examined after their liberation.

Mexico is on the migration route of people who want to go to the US. They are fleeing poverty, violence and political crises in their home countries. The overland route through Mexico is very dangerous for migrants. (sda/dpa)
