It’s a custody dispute that has completely escalated. The feud between steakhouse heiress Christina Block (49) and her ex-husband Stephan Hensel (49) seems to have no end. Recently, unknown people kidnapped two of their children, Theodor (10) and Klara (13), from Denmark on New Year’s Eve.
The signal was given on Tuesday – the spokeswoman for the entrepreneurial family announced on behalf of Block: “The children are doing well. “I ask for your understanding that, primarily out of concern for the well-being of my children, I am not making any further statements at this time.” According to the newspaper ‘Bild’, the exact circumstances are still unclear and police in Germany and Denmark are investigating. But how did it get to this point in the first place?
Blok and Hensel married in 2005. Together they have four children: Johanna, Klara, Greta and Theodor. But the family’s happiness is crumbling: while she is making a career in the family business, he is having professional problems. When his father-in-law Eugen Block (83) threw him out of the company, he set up his own company – without success.
After years of distancing, the couple separated in 2014, the newspaper ‘Bild’ reported. Then the big exchange begins: divorce, money and right of residence for the children.
In 2021, Block makes her relationship with ex-sports commentator Gerhard Delling (64) official; Hensel has already moved to Denmark to be with his new partner. In the same year, the dispute over their children escalated: in August, Hensel did not return Theodor and Klara to Hamburg after a visit. Johanna also stays in Denmark. Block rejects accusations that she beats her children. However, her ex forbids her to have contact with the children.
Block then sued the courts for the release of her children, without success. But in October 2021, the Higher Regional Court ruled in favor of the mother. Although Hensel and Block have joint custody, the so-called right of residence rests with the mother. But the father does not give up the children. The Danish authorities will not implement the German sentence.
On November 9, 2022, a further escalation took place: Block allegedly tried to kidnap her children with the help of a security service. She denies this: she only wanted to protect herself from her sometimes aggressive ex. In response, Hensel calls for personal protection and equips children with alarm buttons.
Contact attempts by grandfather Eugen Block and grandmother Christa Block in January 2023 also failed. Instead, Eugen Block is accused by his ex-son-in-law of threatening his life. Christa Block died in July 2023 – without seeing her grandchildren again.
In February 2023, a partial success for Christina Block in court in Sonderburg, Denmark: she is allowed to see her children every 14 days under supervision. But that’s not enough for her. “If necessary, she will go to the European Court of Justice” to get her children back.
“The situation has still not improved,” Block told the newspaper “Bild” in October 2023. “I still have no contact with my children, even though I have a contact order. It’s still a mystery to me how something like this could happen.”
The two children are eventually kidnapped on New Year’s Eve.
