Biden accuses Putin of wanting to destroy Ukraine

US President Joe Biden accused his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin this Friday of wanting to “destroy” Ukraine after the recent wave of Russian bombing of Ukrainian infrastructure.

In a statement, Biden called the recent Russian airstrikes a “stark reminder” that Putin’s purpose in this war has not changed.

“He seeks to destroy Ukraine and subjugate its people. It must be stopped,” the US president said.

According to Ukraine, the attack in the last 24 hours with almost 160 missiles and drones is the largest since the beginning of the war, in February 2022.

The bombing hit several cities across Ukraine and left at least 22 civilians dead and 130 injured.

Ukraine managed to stop a large number of Russian missiles and drones thanks to air defense systems delivered last year by the United States and other Western countries.

However, Biden warned in his statement that the US will not be able to continue sending this type of aid to Ukraine unless the US Congress acts “urgently” next year and approves a new package of more than $60 billion in military aid to Kiev.

“Congress must act without further delay,” said Biden, who has faced opposition in recent weeks from a majority of House Republicans to approve more aid to Ukraine.

Russian bombing damaged residential areas in Ukraine, a maternity hospital, schools, kindergartens, parks, a metro station, a shopping center and energy infrastructure, causing power outages in various parts of the country.

For its part, the United Kingdom has begun sending some two hundred new missiles to Ukraine to strengthen air defense before the attacks coming to the country from Russia.

In this way, the British executive is renewing the delivery of these elements, which it has already transported to Ukrainian territory at the end of 2022, as stated in the statement of the Ministry of Defense.
