A US lawmaker claimed Thursday that his Republican colleagues in Congress are being blackmailed with sex tapes. Tim Burchett, 59, a conservative Republican from Tennessee, did not provide any evidence or name. But he explained in detail why party colleagues apparently vote for ‘crazy things’: because they are threatened and blackmailed with the publication of illegally recorded sex tapes.
Burchett said on the podcast ‘The Benny Show’ by American political influencer Benny Johnson (36) that he knew very well why ‘good conservatives’ in Congress ‘vote for crazy things. “That’s how it works,” Burchett began his remarks – after claiming that these extortions were carried out by “powerful people” who “write the big checks.”
“You’re visiting,” Burchett explains, “abroad or out of town, or in a motel or in a bar.” Suddenly “women or men or whatever come along and they’re very attractive and they laugh at your jokes. And you treat them to a drink. Before you know it, you’re standing naked with them in the motel room.
Burchett does not elaborate on what happens next, but jumps back in time to just before an “important vote” on Capitol Hill. “What happens then?” Burchett asks rhetorically. “Some well-dressed person comes out and whispers in your ear, ‘Hey man, there’s footage of you,’ or, ‘Were you in a motel room or whatever, with whoever?’ And then you say, ‘Oh -oh .’ And they say, ‘You really shouldn’t vote for this.'”
It’s not clear whether Burchett knows from personal experience or firsthand that something like this happens – or if he’s just speculating. When asked by the American media to explain himself further, the politician apparently did not respond.
The “powerful people” who allegedly ensnare members of Congress are “always on the tarmac or in private” with the president, Burchett said. It’s the “old sex trap – like the Russians do – and I’m sure members of Congress have fallen victim to it.”
In a honeytrap scam, an attacker poses as an attractive person to trick victims into revealing sensitive information or falling into a trap.
Early this week, Burchett had already described some of his colleagues as “compromised.” This happened when he and Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn (71) from Tennessee tried to obtain the flight data of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein († 66), who died in 2019.
The passenger lists include the names of about 180 people who were close to Epstein and visited him on his pleasure island in the Caribbean. There, Epstein is said to have offered sex services to celebrities through minors. A US federal judge in Manhattan this week ordered that the identities of the people be revealed by early January.
The Democrats in particular are against the publication of the list of names. Rumors are circulating in the US that former US President Bill Clinton (77) – a Democrat – was also a regular passenger on board Epstein’s ‘Lolita Express’. (kes)
