Now they have been convicted: young people in London kill the man who irritated them during the bus ride

Feeling disturbed by him, three teenagers murdered a young man in London in November 2022. He was drunk and annoyed her during a bus ride. They then ambushed him and killed him in revenge. For this they have now been sentenced to long prison terms by the Old Bailey criminal court.

Judge John Hillen said the motive – “unbelievable as it may seem” – was that the youths were annoyed by the victim’s rowdy behaviour.

They threw motorcycle chains and bottles at the man

The 21-year-old was drinking with a friend in the south-east of the British capital when he met the suspects, now aged 15, 17 and 18, on a bus.

The youths got out shortly after the man, grabbed weapons and returned to a fast food restaurant where the 21-year-old had gone. When he got out, the 18-year-old swung a motorcycle chain at him but missed. The 15-year-old threw a bottle and the 17-year-old ended up stabbing him in the chest with a knife.

The defendants stated that they had only defended themselves; the court did not accept this. It sentenced the two eldest to life imprisonment for murder, with the 17-year-old to spend at least 15 years in prison before he could be released, and the 18-year-old to 14 years. The youngest perpetrator was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison for manslaughter. (SDA)
