After consultations with the responsible committee and a statement from President Andrzej Duda, he decided to dismiss the heads of the anti-corruption agency CBA, the domestic and foreign intelligence services and the two military reconnaissance services, Tusk said in Warsaw on Tuesday. The new head of the anti-corruption bureau will be Agnieszka Kwiatkowska-Gurdak, and Colonel Rafal Syrysko will take over the leadership of the domestic secret service.
Tusk leads a pro-European three-party alliance of the former opposition, which won the government majority in October’s parliamentary elections. Because the national-conservative PiS, which has been in power since 2015, postponed the transfer of power, Tusk was only able to take office last week. The parties in the current government accuse the PiS of, among other things, using the secret services to spy on their political opponents.
The Polish Prime Minister also announced that he would soon appoint a successor to police chief Jaroslaw Szymczyk. The general sparked nationwide laughter last December when he accidentally caused the explosion of a grenade launcher given to him as a gift by his Ukrainian colleagues at police headquarters.
