After the company Life at Sea Cruises suddenly had to cancel its much-discussed three-year cruise, leaving hundreds of passengers with nothing, another company now wants to make the dream of a mega cruise come true.
The project failed because the company did not have the right ship. Unlike the competition, the company Villa Vie Residences has found what it was looking for and has confirmed the purchase of a ship for the monster voyage around the world, reports CNN. The cruise line is taking it one step further: instead of just three years, the mega ship wants to sail the world’s oceans for three and a half years.
The steamer is due to leave in May next year. In the approximately 1,301 cruise days, 147 countries are visited and 425 ports are visited. “It’s less a cruise than a lifestyle – a house with ever-changing backyards,” says CEO Mikael Petterson.
The MS Braemar is equipped with 485 cabins and can accommodate 924 passengers. Nevertheless, the 30-year-old freighter is narrow enough to dock in the heart of travel destinations. This is evident from a report by Villa Vie, which is available to CNN.
With its eight decks, the mega ship not only has a surrounding promenade, but is also equipped with swimming pools and whirlpools. There are also three restaurants, eight bars and four lounges on deck, as well as a spa, fitness center, library and medical center.
To enjoy this luxury, passengers have to dig deep into their pockets. A normal inside cabin is available from 89 US dollars per person (the equivalent of 77 francs) per day. This corresponds to 32,485 US dollars (the equivalent of 28,265 Swiss francs) per person per year or 97,455 US dollars (the equivalent of 84,814 Swiss francs) for three years. Outdoor cabins start at $119 per person per day and balcony cabins start at $199.
Although Villa Vie was founded by former members of the Life at Sea management team, they can be trusted. “We are completely different,” says CEO Petterson. Unlike its predecessors, it doesn’t ask people for hundreds of thousands of dollars upfront. “We ask for a small percentage to see who is serious and actually comes.” (dzc)
