The surgeon who operated on the pope is under investigation for forgery

The surgeon who operated on Pope Francis at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome, Sergio Alfieri, An investigation is being conducted against him for falsifying public documents, because he would have been registered in the register of operations that he did not perform, the newspaper “La Stampa” reports today.

According to the newspaper, the investigation began after a complaint received on February 9 Carabinieri who deal with healthcare about the existence of Alfieri’s firm in the operations of several patients at the same time.

The Carabinieri went to the Agostino Gemelli Center, known as the ‘Pope’s Hospital’, because that’s where the Popes go, to take dozens of medical documents and start an investigation that was revealed today by an Italian newspaper.

The first hypothesis, according to ‘La Stampa’, is that the surgeon has been dedicated since 2022r more private operations than there might be and on some of the dates he appeared in the operating room, he was actually present at Gemelli’s internal conferences and meetings.

Alfieri, who rose to prominence following press conferences following the pope’s surgeries in June to remove some growths on his abdominal wall, also has a seat on the board of the Gemelli Policlinique Foundation and the Vatican Health Council.

As reported by La Stampa, the doctor filmed more operations than he performed to be able to make more private interventionssince Italian health laws stipulate a certain match between the number of operations performed privately and those performed for public health.

Alfieri, added the Turin newspaper, signed the records while other doctors in his team operated or appeared as the first or second surgeon, but he was not even present in the structure.

And patients, including those with cancer, who come to his surgery have been diverted from public to private wards, including the hospital, to avoid long queues.
