From political star to influencer: the new life of former Finnish boss Sanna Marin

She has already had a turbulent political career and Sanna Marin is not yet 40 years old. When she became Prime Minister of Finland in 2019, she was 34 years old, becoming the youngest head of government in the world.

Then came Corona and a party video in the middle of the pandemic. The photos went around the world. Marin was forced to apologize and eventually pulled the cord and her government resigned after the election defeat in April.

She explained that in the future she would work as a consultant for the non-profit Institute for Global Change of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair (70).

In Paris during Fashion Week

It sounds dry at first, but Sanna Marin has been anything but forgotten. On the contrary: it seems more popular than ever. The Finnish woman is followed by a million people on Instagram alone.

And the 38-year-old regularly posts what she’s doing. For example, at the end of September she was at Fashion Week in Paris. She also published several photos on Instagram. She in a black dress, casually leaning against the balcony door and a video showing her behind the scenes. In another post, she steps out of a black limousine in style.

A few days later Sanna Marin is in the US. Hollywood. There she meets actress Sharon Stone (65), known from ‘Basic Instinct’. And enjoy the California sun. She posts a video from the beach, including a photo and sunglasses. She clearly seems to be enjoying the trip. Thousands of people like the posts and their followers respond diligently.

The tenor: Sanna Marin is loved – precisely because of her love for life. She does what she wants and that’s what matters. “You are such an amazing role model for all women and girls worldwide,” reads one comment. “I’m pretty sure we’d have world peace if all heads of state were as cold as Sanna.” And: “She seems much happier since she is no longer in politics,” someone else wrote.

Divorce after 19 years

After her resignation, Sanna Marin admitted about her time as head of government: “My own endurance was sometimes tested.” And not only that: it was a turbulent year for Marin. Not only professionally, but also privately. In May, she announced on Instagram that she and her husband Markus Räikkonen (38) had filed for divorce ‘together’.

Marin and Räikkönen got married in the summer of 2020 after being together for about 16 years. They met as 18-year-old students. They now have a five-year-old daughter together. They wrote that they were grateful for 19 years together and their beloved daughter. “We are still best friends, close and loving parents.”
