The singing children of San Miguelito are asking for support to go to Rome

The San Miguelito Children’s Choir will participate in the 44th International Congress of Pueri Singers, organized by the International Federation of Pueri Singers, in Rome, Italy.

This event will take place from December 28, 2023 to January 1, 2024.

A group of 19 girls and young people accompanied by parents and teachers Jorge Eduardo Vilchez During the whole year, they carried out activities to cover the costs of this important presentation, which amount to about 90 thousand dollars, however, some costs for food, transportation and other things still need to be covered.

At this congress we expect 3000 children from 27 countriess, only three are from Latin America: Panama, Venezuela and Mexico.

“We are the first choir in Central America to be invited, our girls will be able to share the stage with other high level artists such as: Vienna Boys Singers, Choir Escolania de Montserrat, Escolania del Escorial and Boy Singers from Regensburgamong others,” said the director of the San Miguelito Children’s Choir, Professor Jorge Eduardo Vilchez.

The International congresses of pueri singers are events which gathers the best choirs of children and young people from all over the world.

Pueri Cantores, which means in Latin “Boys Who Sing”, is an international federation of children’s and youth choirs that perform sacred music, especially in liturgical contexts, an organization of the Holy See. It is considered the largest and most important choral event in the world.

The Panamanian choir that performed in 2019 at Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama, in front of Pope Francis, government representatives and diplomats, will now have the following presentations in Rome, Italy: Mayor of the Basilica of San Giovanni Laterano, Embassy of Panama to the Italian Government, Mayor of St. Peter’s Basilica, Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, Basilica of San Ignatius Loyola, Parish of St. Mary Mater Dei, Paul VI hall. in the Vatican.

Before their long-awaited mission, Panamanians will know how to appreciate the talent of our national team members this December 12 at 18:00 at the Christmas Posada in Plaza Ciudad del Ciudad del Saber and a farewell concert on December 22 at 19:30 at the Church of Santísima Trinidad (El Dorado). Choir of Singing children of San Miguelito Born 9 years ago in the parish of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, Torrijos Carter, sponsored by Pbro. Eusebio Muñoz and the musical direction of Mtro. Jorge Vilchez, as a comprehensive cultural project that will provide children and youth in the Torrijos Carter area with professional musical training focused on choral singing. Starting in 2016, the project expanded to the entire district, providing music lessons to more than 300 children.
