False injection from the Internet: British woman wanted to lose weight with Ozempic – and almost died

The hype surrounding the Ozempic fat removal injection is not going away. Originally developed to combat diabetes and later used to treat obesity, people who are actually healthy and of normal weight now want to get rid of their extra few sanitary pads in spades. The risks are underestimated. The side effects may be more severe at a normal weight and, in the worst cases, lead to chronic pancreatitis and gallstones.

But the unrest surrounding Ozempic also brings other types of dangers. British Michelle Sword (45) wanted to lose weight quickly without cravings. And she almost paid with her life for her desire to lose a few pounds from her ribs.

Sword ordered the Ozempic syringe online in September. After injecting herself with the so-called miracle drug, she loses consciousness. Her mother found her 13-year-old daughter Cadie on the couch, unable to speak. The woman is immediately taken to hospital.

“I should have known better”

The investigation shows that the online product does not contain the active substance semaglutide, but pure insulin, causing Sword to overdose. She took about 4.5 times more units than diabetics usually do.

“My heart rate slowed down, everything started rolling and at that point they were literally fighting to keep me alive,” the woman told the Daily Mail of her time in hospital. The megadose of insulin led to hypoglycemia and glucose deficiency. As a result, their cells could no longer function properly. In retrospect, the little woman bitterly regrets ordering the injection just to lose some weight. “I should have known better. I teach my children to do better, but I didn’t follow the same rules myself.” Now she has shared the shocking footage of her collapse on Facebook to warn others about it.

Germany warns against fake syringes

In Switzerland, Ozempic is only available with a prescription. Intake under medical supervision is also mandatory in Germany and Great Britain. If you don’t have a prescription, like Michelle Sword, you’re getting it illegally online – and you’re at risk of falling for a counterfeit. 369 counterfeit Ozempic syringes were seized in Britain between January and October.

There were already warnings about this in Germany in October. A pharmaceutical wholesaler from Baden-Württemberg was suspected of trading in the counterfeits, writes ‘Bild’.

The side effects of real Ozempic should not be taken lightly. Australian Trish W.* († 56) wanted to lose weight before her daughter’s wedding and had her doctor prescribe the medicine. Within five months she lost almost 16 kilos. But if the stomach slows down too much or the intestines become blocked, problems can arise. The side effects were too devastating for W. Her husband found W. motionless on the couch a few weeks before their daughter’s wedding. “Something brown came out of her mouth.” The woman died a few hours later.
