A warning strike by passenger transport drivers began across Germany on Thursday evening. Because the strike also affects long-distance transport, it has consequences for connections from Switzerland to the neighboring country in the north.
The SBB therefore advises against traveling to Germany from Thursday to Friday evening. Tickets would remain valid. Affected trains would only run within Switzerland and be canceled to or from the border, the head of the SBB media department, Reto Schärli, said at the request of Keystone-SDA.
The precise consequences are still unclear and it is therefore not yet possible to guarantee that all connections within Switzerland will be replaced, according to the SBB media spokesperson. First of all, SBB advises all passengers to postpone their trip to Germany to another time.
The train drivers’ union GDL called for the strike in Germany. It lasts 24 hours until 10pm on Friday. The warning strike in freight transport started at 6 p.m. The railway has drawn up an emergency timetable, but assumes that there will be some train cancellations and delays in local and long-distance transport.
According to the union, this is the last industrial action this year. No further industrial action should take place until January 7.
The railways welcomed the Christmas peace in principle, but sharply criticized the announcement of a short-term strike and called on the GDL to renegotiate.
