So much luck is almost unfair. A little over a year ago, Wayne Murray stopped at a gas station on Avenue H in Brooklyn. While paying, he bought a New York Lottery scratch-off ticket and won ten million dollars.
This week, the multimillionaire stopped again at the same gas station, bought another scratch card – and won the ten million dollar jackpot for the second time.
Murray invested $30 each for the ‘X Series: 200X Black Titanium’ competition. Players must compare the numbers on their scratched spaces with the winning numbers. The winning numbers each have a monetary value that can then be multiplied up to 200 times – as long as you have the symbol for it on the ticket.
Murray’s odds of winning the top prize the first time were 1 in 4.32 million, this time it was “only” 1 in 3.5 million. In a press release, Brad Maine, director of lottery communications, confirmed that the winner received just over $6 million after taxes. Murray, who this time decided to hide his face in the photo behind a mask, said of the lottery: “It feels very overwhelming, but also liberating!”
New York State has the most lucrative state lottery in the United States. The various scratch card games generated $4.4 billion last year alone. Of that, $3.7 billion went to the school system. (ymh)
