Police surrounded a home in Arlington, Virginia, on Monday evening. They want to execute a search warrant because a man previously shot from the house with a flare gun.
When the police arrived on the scene, the man fired the flare gun again – and a huge explosion occurred in the house. The force of the explosion can be seen in videos circulating on social media showing the incident: followed by a loud bang, the entire house catches fire and then collapses. It is unclear whether the man survived or not.
The site of the incident is southwest of Washington and about a 15-minute drive from the center of the capital. The background to the incident was initially unclear. Officers involved in the operation suffered only minor injuries, police said.
The fire brigade reported extensive extinguishing work and asked local residents to avoid the area. Local station NBC4 Washington reported that police were called to the house in the afternoon after the suspect fired shots from the house with a flare gun. (SDA/neo)
