Bloody crime in Thailand. At his own wedding, Chatorung S. (†29) shoots his bride Kanchana P. (†44) and three guests before committing suicide. This was announced by the police in the northeastern Thai district of Wang Nam Khieo.

Accordingly, shortly after the official wedding, S. “suddenly” left the wedding and went to the car. A short time later he returned with a gun and started shooting. S. shot his bride and her mother (†62) and sister (†38), the “Bangkok Post” reports, among others.

Two other guests were also hit by the hail of bullets. A 28-year-old man survived with injuries, a woman (†50) was killed by a bullet. Chatorung S. eventually turned the gun on himself and shot himself.

S. was a professional athlete

According to the Bangkok Post report, the couple had known each other for several years and were already living together. During the wedding there was said to have been “a heated argument between the bride and groom”. The groom is also said to have been ‘extremely drunk’ during the wedding and to have repeatedly complained about the large age difference between him and his wife. Yet he said yes to his wife shortly before the murder.

Last year, Chatorung S. won two silver medals at the Asean Para Games. According to media reports, he lost his right leg as a border patrol soldier and subsequently began a career as a professional athlete, including competing in swimming and shooting competitions. Authorities said he legally purchased the gun and ammunition he used at his wedding last year.

According to authorities, it is currently unclear why Chatorung S. picked up a gun on his wedding day and caused a massacre. Investigation into possible motives has begun. (zis)
