Another man has been executed in Iran in connection with the protests surrounding the death of Mahsa Amini, activists say. The execution of Milad Sohrevand took place Thursday in a prison in the western city of Hamadan, according to the Norway-based Kurdish human rights organization Hengaw.

The man was therefore not informed about the impending execution of his death sentence and was no longer allowed to see his family. Sohrevand was sentenced to death for the murder of an Iranian Revolutionary Guards officer during a demonstration in the city of Malayer last November.
His execution was the eighth in connection with the nationwide protests following the death of the young Kurdish woman Amini in September 2022 after her arrest by Iran’s moral police.
According to the human rights group Amnesty International, the Iranian leaders’ aim with the executions is to “send a clear message to the world and the Iranian people that they will stop at nothing to suppress and punish dissent.”
At least 680 people have been executed in Iran this year, most for murder or drug offenses, according to the Oslo-based group Iran Human Rights.
