10, 33, 41, 47, 56. With these numbers, Edwin Castro (31) won the Powerball jackpot just over a year ago. It was the biggest lottery win of all time. In February, the American won almost a billion dollars. That is the equivalent of almost 900 million francs.

Castro has had shopping fever ever since. In just eight months, the 31-year-old bought three villas around Los Angeles worth $76 million. The most expensive house is in the posh Bel Air neighborhood – and cost $47 million. It has seven bedrooms, eleven bathrooms, an infinity pool and a koi pond, the Daily Mail reports.

Because one property apparently wasn’t enough, Castro bought another property just 20 miles away from the gigantic villa for four million dollars. And since all good things come in threes, Castro also owns a mansion in the Hollywood Hills for which he had to shell out $25 million.

The proud winner not only collects houses, but also cars, especially vintage cars. The more expensive, the better. Castro now owns seven luxury cars. This includes three vintage Volkswagen Karmann Ghias, a Porsche 911 from the 1970s and a Ram 1500 TRX pickup with more than 700 hp. Castro’s most recent purchases were a 1960s Porsche 356 and another Porsche 911 – but this time in a different color. Photos show him examining the two classic cars.

He allegedly stole the lottery ticket

Castro won the mega jackpot at a gas station in the US. First, another man accused him of stealing the lottery ticket. However, after a validation process, the California Lottery denied the allegations. Castro was eligible for the $2.04 billion jackpot. But because he wasn’t the only winner, he was left with about a billion.

The brand new billionaire actually wanted to remain anonymous. However, California law thwarted Castro’s plans. It requires lottery winners to reveal their identities.

The winner hasn’t said much to the media yet. However, after collecting his winnings, he said, “As shocked and excited as I am to have won the Powerball drawing, the real winner is California’s public school system.” Background: America’s public schools benefit from the state lottery.
